About
Sound Engineering is a mix of Technical and creative education in Sound and Music. Here we train the students not only to understand the technicalities of Sound but also help their creative abilities to make music professionally! Every student here is duly trained to handle the intricacies of sound recording, editing and mixing. The creative talent of the students is honed and sharpened to make them face the world of audio engineering hands on and with full expertise.
Career
Jobs for sound engineers are expected to increase by 9% over the next decade or so. This means that approximately 10,600 new jobs will be created in this field. New sound engineering jobs will be created as television and radio stations, recording studios, schools and music venues replace old audio equipment with the latest technology. New equipment often requires training to ensure it is being used properly and employers may seek to hire new engineers to fill this demand.
Job Prospects
- Set up, maintain, operate and repair audio recording/broadcast equipment
- Choose appropriate audio equipment to use for various situations
- Coordinate with directors, editors, video operators and other sound engineers
- Stay informed of new developments in sound engineering
- Plan and schedule work in an efficient and effective manner
Remuneration
How much does a sound engineer make? The Bureau of Labor Statistics lists the average annual salary for sound engineers as $55,340 in May 2012. That is equivalent to $26.60 per hour. The BLS data indicates that the pay for sound engineers ranges from a low of $22,810 per year to a high of $97,700 per year.
Pay in this field is strongly affected by the industry in which a sound engineer works. For example, sound engineers working in the motion picture industry tend to earn a higher salary than sound engineers who work in radio and television broadcasting. Sound engineers who obtain additional voluntary certifications may be able to earn higher salaries.
Many sound engineers work full-time in television or radio stations, recording studios or live music venues. Sound engineers can find jobs in both urban and rural areas because virtually all recording and broadcast services require sound engineering.
